Savannah Young performs on the floor routine
Morgan Nicholls performs on the floor
Carolann Rosenblum performs on the beam
By Melissa Maikos - Bio
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Florida, Alabama, California! all representin' at the AAU Gymnastics Nationals taking place at the Savannah Civic Center. Team Georgia is also in the house and so is a team from Hilton Head! And this team is having a grand 'ol time!
Some of the best Gymnasts from all over the Country are in Savannah for the AAU nationals. Among the best of the best, the ladies from the Palmetto State!
Savannah Young, Morgan Nicholls and Carolann Rosenblum are three members of the Hilton Head Island Gymnastics team!
Carolann is 10 and has been doing gymnastics for a few years, "At first I did dance and then I didn't like it very much and so I did gymnastics and I liked it a lot!"
And Morgan Nicholls also found something she liked!
"I did it in Michigan for awhile," she says, "because I like doing stuff that involves going upside down and stuff."
Savannah Young started tumbling at age 7.
She says, "I was really flexible and I like being upside down so I found the perfect sport."
And they've got the perfect attitude when it comes to their sport.
"We kind of goof around at practice sometimes and it's just really fun to go to meets because we encourage each other." Savannah says.
And as much fun as they have they know how hard gymnastics can be.
"It's pretty hard, you get scared but I just remind myself that it's nothing big, it's just competing against yourself." says Carolann.
But in the end it's all about one thing.
Carolann says, "a lot of fun."
Morgan adds, "it's been really, really fun."

Local Gymnasts bring home over 75 MEDALS from National Event. . .
What makes gymnastics a passion for these 21 HH Island Gymnastics girls …the intense regimen of weight training, running, stretching and calisthenics, along with a precise tumbling routine. People think gymnastics is just something to do and it's so easy! The dedication and pain – it’s so demanding to develop perfection...
It's the type of sport where practice easily could be mistaken for playtime to the girls. Constantly flipping, stand on their heads for no apparent reason, others attempt to see how far their legs will stretch over their heads, dangle above from the uneven bars. You don't attain this flexibility or perfection on a consistent basis by just playing around. And that's why Luis Barrero, Julie Stone, Veta Moore and Molly Reynolds of Hilton Head Island Gymnastics coach more than 25 local Competitive TEAM gymnasts, from the ages of 7 to 16. These are the best-conditioned athletes in the area. It takes a special athlete to conquer some of the fears that come with gymnastics, and that's what these girls do every day. It also takes a special team to come together individually for a four-day span at the AAU Junior Olympic Age Group National Gymnastics Championships in Savannah, Georgia. With more than 1,600 gymnasts competing from June 24 to June 28 the 21 participating Island Gymnasts won gold, silver and bronze medals each, as well as 75 placement medals in the various events at 4 different levels. The hard works really comes through for Level 8 Regional gymnast Kelsey Covert who placed 1st All Around.

Gymnastics meet provides chance to shine
About 850 gymnasts from 52 teams competed in the three-day meet that finished Sunday.
Published Monday, January 29, 2007
The two inches gymnast KateLynn Gintz grew in the weeks prior to the Hilton Head Island Invitational left her coming up short Sunday.
The 5-foot-1 Hilton Head Preparatory School student said she felt a bit off-kilter in front of the hometown crowd. She placed in just one of five events -- ninth, on the balance beam.
"It just threw everything off," Gintz said of her growth spurt. "I had to re-adjust all my steps for vault, and I had to move my beam up a little bit because my back handsprings are longer than they used to be. On bars, we have to move them wider because my feet hit the low bar."
Gintz was one of about 850 gymnasts from 52 teams competing in the three-day meet, which was divided into 13 sessions similar to heats in a large track and field meet. Separate champions were crowned after each session.
Gintz was docked on the bars Sunday for touching the ground with her feet; she would've earned the same deduction had she fallen off the apparatus.
On the balance beam, Gintz' strongest event, she performed what looked like a near-flawless routine. But she earned deductions for missing the connection between her two back walkovers. She was also docked because her split leap did not have a 180 degree separation.
But she'll get a chance to fix things Saturday at Clemson University for the Tiger Paw Invitational, Island Gymnastics' next event. Plus, Gintz said she plans to add elements to raise her start value on some events, like vault. Both vaults she performed Sunday started at a 9.0.
Gintz, 13, is the highest level gymnast at the Bluffton-based gym, which saw 15 of its tumblers compete in the three-day meet. She was promoted to USA Gymnastics Level 8 a year ago.
Kelly Humes was the only other Island Gymnastics competitor performing Sunday -- and when it comes to her trophy case, the most successful.
Humes, a Hilton Head Christian Academy student, took first place in each event she competed.
But she was the only PREP Optional gymnast competing in her session. PREP Optional is an alternative USA Gymnastics program which provides gymnasts a more gradual introduction into optional competition.
The Invitational was Humes' third meet as a "PREP-Op 2," or a gymnast in between Levels 5 and 6.
"I just try to do better at each meet and I did that today pretty much," Humes, 12, said. "I have a lot of new stuff in my routines, but some old stuff so it's not too hard."
